Overview
Artists created an installation that included abstract expressionist oil and acrylic paintings, colorful film panels, life-scale sculptures, and a community mural inviting visitors to join them in creation and completion of the mural. Materials: Canvas, photography, paint. Dimensions: 2D 36″ X 144″, 3D 3′ x 6′.
Goals
The mural, in both color and content, was intended to be a communal dialogue for visitors to explore the artist that resides in each of us and illustrate their unique place in the Sandy Spring Community.
Process
We discussed the museum and community engagement goals to identify the art style envisioned and how the community would participate. There was an option for people to participate both in person and through the museum website.
Additional Information
The collaborative experience was rewarding. The vision of the museum director was instrumental in making this project a success.
