Overview
This piece was funded through the Scottsdale % for Art requirement and proposed for the public plaza of the new Garden Hilton. In partnership with the developers, architects, city planners, & shade sculpture artist Geoffrey Bruce I proposed an iconic sculpture surrounded by seating benches and shade areas throughout the plaza.
Goals
The city wanted to incorporate a public shade plaza into the parking garage ground level deck. This required meeting weight limitations and incorporating shade areas, plant materials, and seating benches into the plaza. It was very important to have an attractive centerpiece at night, so I created a stepped pedestal with risers composed grid of irridized marbles in a metal mesh with back lighting at night.
Process
The developers worked agreed to provide the planters and benches, while Geoffrey Bruce worked with me directly to create shade structures in tensioned fabric to complement the curvilinear sculpture I had designed as a centerpiece for the plaza.
