Overview
Both whimsical and clever, John Nelson’s acrylic and mixed-media paintings are founded on the use of recognizable imagery paired with symbols, patterns and text. Through his compositions, he creates a pictorial system of communication, where graphics and words can act as cryptic messages revealing a deeper meaning.

A midcareer, Arizona-based artist, Nelson's creations express a concern for the planet and its dwindling resources, yet envice a welcoming playfulness. A majority of works throughout the exhibition contain some recycled element -usually metal- that become a kind of visual anchor and blend in with stenciled and silk screened texts that are just legible under acrylic backgrounds.
