Client: Tom Otterness

Overview

Designed by Brooklyn artist Tom Otterness, the Big Girl Structure is a 33-ft tall x18-ft wide playground structure that is made to look like a girl sitting down. The legs of the “girl” extend from a lattice-type base and the arms are slides.

Goals

Playground needed to be designed simple enough for the installation process to go smoothly and effectively.

Process

Bronze was used for plates, tubes and castings and comprised all of the visual structural members. There is an interior stainless steel skeleton supporting part of the structure.
