Overview
Ribbons of Life is a multidimensional hand dyed textile sculpture located in the main lobby of the Northwest Arkansas Community College Shewmaker Building for Workforce Technologies in Rogers, Arkansas. Consisting of three, fifty foot by fourteen inch, double sided “ribbons” of hand dyed cloth suspended from the ceiling the artwork is designed to be enjoyed from all three levels of the atrium lobby. Incorporating multiple surface design techniques, including marbling, handpainting, dye transfer and stitching the sculpture includes images of botanicals gathered from the campus grounds incorporated into the design.
Goals
Inspired by the beauty of the Ozark landscape, Ribbons of Life offers a visual refuge and respite from a confusing and challenging world. Viewers are offered an opportunity to pause and reflect; continuing on their journey toward being their best selves feeling energized and renewed.
Process
The Land Use Committee of the Northwest Arkansas Community College approved the Ribbons of Life project. Perrodin Supply Company created the hanging armature.
