Overview
Our mandate for this project was to create five site-specific art benches, with relevant historic themes. The artworks had to be integrated and appropriate for the revitalized Old Town, and at the same time imaginative, contemporary signature pieces that mark Lewisville as a diverse and forward-looking community.
Goals
Once we were awarded the commission in October of 2018, the real work began. We created many concept drawings using the 5 selected themes. These drawings were reviewed at on-line meetings. Once the concept selection was complete, we flew to Texas, met with the art board and gave two general community meetings, so that everyone was informed and on-board. The notes of these meetings were compiled by the Lewisville Director of Public Art so that we had a clear mandate moving forward. We then revised the drawings, created scale models and construction drawings, and after final approval began fabrication.
