Overview

These stylized rays appear almost abstract as they float along the wall, illuminating the path and guiding passengers towards their departure destination while providing visual interest and variety. The lighter toned underside of the rays dissolves into the wall, adding to their mystique as the viewer steps back to discover their form.

Goals

The Port Authority in Fort Lauderdale, Florida sought after an iconic work of art that would create a sense pf place and serve as a wayfinding tool to help passengers navigate the cruise terminal.

MGA’s solution was both elegant and functional: the stylized rays appear almost abstract as they float along the wall, illuminating the path and guiding passengers towards their departure destination while providing visual interest and variety.

Process

Master sculptor Mark Aeling collaborated with painter and electrical engineer Carrie Jadus to develop the concept for the rays. They and the MGA Sculpture team are entirely responsible for the design, fabrication, and installation of this project.
