Overview
A set of outdoor furniture for downtown Bellingham, taking domestic models, but making them schematic, functional, and durable. Hand bent stainless steel love seats, side tables, chairs, and sofas scattered around town.
Goals
Usable furniture that will work in a tough public space, and stand the test of time. Over 10 years later, with hard use, they still look great, and get used daily. The design avoids skaters, grafitti, and vandalism, drains rainwater, and is comfortable.
Process
I collaborated with architect Anthony Cava on the design, and we worked with the City of Bellingham to make the pieces easy to maintain and clean, so they could last and be enjoyed for decades.
