Overview

"What Lies Within" is a mixed media installation for the lobby of adult day center. Water is the central theme of the installation, evoking a world full of life, light, color, and movement. The piece is highly textural, and designed to be touched. Upon closer examination, the viewer will find a variety of friendly sea creatures, an abundance of reflective, decorative, and hand-sewn elements.

Goals

The setting for the artwork is Still Waters Adult Day Center-a facility that provides care for older adults who need supervision, socialization, and stimulation due to physical and cognitive declines.The artwork is designed for the benefit of the clients, and their caregivers.

Process

During 2017, more than 100 individuals in the Indianapolis community participated in workshops,painting and decorating fabric panels, later transformed by the artist, and used in the installation. They came from a diverse community of older adults, children, and family caregivers.
