Overview
Photography, plexiglass, steel mirror environmental concerns as mobile sculpture. The kinetic artwork evokes the beauty of an oak tree while subtly noting the ongoing destruction of forests due to climate change. The mirrored elements reflect the viewer in the artwork and suggest participation in the dialogue. The artwork was initially created for a museum setting and now enlivens the Second Level at the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco.
Goals
The artwork was initially designed as wall-mounted sculpture for an exhibition at the Museum of Sonoma County in Santa Rosa and then went on to be exhibited at the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco. Due to physical and aesthetic constraints, the kinetic work was further modified and elevated upon a mirrored pedestal for its installation at the Commonwealth Club where it is currently on view.
Process
In both venues, much consideration was given to placement for viewing and foot traffic.
