Puerto de los Honorables. 600 x 200 x 1500 cm. Corten Steel & Bronze. The project brief was for a homage to Basque politician Ramón Rubial. A bright and optimistic sculpture for permanent placement in the picturesque city park in Bilbao, right next to the city's famed Guggenheim Museum.
This piece is a tribute to Ramón Rubial; first president of the Basque General Council, and an extremely important figure in preparing the region for the return to autonomous government after the fall of Franco. The artwork makes skillful use of perspective, light and space, alongside traditional figurative sculpture, to explore the paths that we walk down and the choices that we make: no just as individuals, but as societies. Each community is bound together by the decisions it takes; decisions that shape our present and our future. Like Rubial, this piece is dedicated to making the right ones. To democracy, peace and freedom of expression.
