Overview
The mobile is made up of hundreds of rotating leaf shapes. Some are painted aluminum and some are dichroic acrylic. The hospital is in an area where they are reclaiming the prairie so I used the colors of grasslands in spring. The piece is 36′ long, 18′ wide and 8′ high. The leaves are moved by ambient air.
Goals
First of all the sculpture needed to be very airy and open. It also had to complement the large mosaic on the adjacent wall. The client wanted a piece that related strongly to nature. These directions from the client were very helpful in shaping the final outcome.
Process
The art consultants, Corporate Artworks, were a pleasure to work with. We worked very closely developing the artwork through several iterations.
