Overview
A landmark sculpture for a major new office / hotel development in the city centre of Aberdeen, Scotland. The leopard features on the heraldic coat of arms of the city. The 2.2 ton cat sits balanced atop a 35ft tall, 12” wide steel column and is a remarkable feat of precision engineering.
Goals
'Poised' enhances the square of the new development and can be seen from the ground by the public and by the new tenants at the higher floors. The leopard features on the heraldic coat of arms of the city. Since the installation the sculpture has attracted many viewers, but also new business tenants and is now on the main tourist trails for the city.
Process
Andy has made 'Poised' by hand over the period of 12 months. Good friend George Potter assisted with some of the work. Mark Sinclair of Design Engineering Workshop assisted to find the carefully considered balance of the sculpture. Sculpture and Design (Scott Associates Ltd) have been a great help with the installation.
