Overview
Artist Director of Synetic Theater wanted to incorporate projections as if they were animated painting that expressed the internal world of Dorian Gray. The projection also provided a stylized scenography for the different settings required by the script.
Goals
The projection design was integral to creating each scenery, augmenting the emotional expression, adding to the lighting design, and elaborating the choreography.
Process
The scenic designer, artistic director, technical director, lighting designer, and myself will clarify the concept and potential set materials over at least two in-person production meetings and a long string of emails. The scenic designer and I worked closely to find the right materials for the projection surfaces. We were looking for a unique texture, durable, and a material that can conduct light.
