Overview
For the 2-floor Nephrology department Site Painters (team of artists, Laura Bender and John Early) created a wrap-around environment of forests, wetlands, and waterfalls – all teaming with lively creatures from around the world. The murals started as richly textured painted paper collages which were scanned and printed on acrovyn panels and installed in waiting room, reception lobby, and corridors. The 19 dialysis stations each were treated as environments for a particular animal and organized alphabetically. Hand-painted animal cut-outs were installed on custom-designed vinyl wallcovering. Nurses stations were enhanced with individual paintings of animals.
Goals
The goal for integrating art into this Nephrology wing for children was to create a warm and inviting experience for the patients and their families whose visits often last several hours. With an emphasis on the whimsical and exploratory, the art is engaging for all age populations.
Process
Site Painters worked closely with Skyline Art Services and the hospital interior designer in developing the concept and execution of the installation. The work was designed in SitePainters' studio and either shipped to the hospital or sent to fabricators for printing and installation.
