Overview
The Artist Jeff Davenport was not only an ASU alumna but also worked at Bollinger Atelier on and off for 25 years. We loved the opportunity to work together once again on such an important sculpture for our community. Taken from a 16″ high maquette original, we scanned and milled an enlarged version to then be cast and finished. The final bronze was 82.42″h x 36″w x 24″d, 389 lbs. and now lives in the Tillman Tunnel that leads players onto the north end of Sun Devil Stadium.
Goals
Every piece we do we try to make the work as close to the original as possible. This, of course, is increasingly hard when enlarging and keeping details, however because of the advancement of technology and expert artisans we are able to precisely enlarge the original. After the foam was milled we put the clay on and formed the details. Jeff came in and finalized the details as well before it headed into molds. The patina was also very important for Jeff and we collaborated with Aiya Jordan to nail down the final image.
