Overview
Paper Cloud was a temporary installation for the 2017 AIA San Antonio Beaux Arts Ball at the Light Building in San Antonio, TX. The project was coordinated and executed by Stuart Allen and Cade Bradshaw. 140 paper lamps were fabricated with bond paper, wire, LED tape light and staples – lots and lots of staples.
Goals
This was a temporary installation, commissioned by the AIA San Antonio. The setting was the print annex of the historic Light Building, formerly the press room for the San Antonio Express News and the San Antonio Light newspapers. The stark contrast between the post-industrial grit and the crisp and clean paper forms was of significant interest to the artists and collaborating partners.
Process
Paper Cloud was a collaborative endeavor, constructed by more than 70 individuals, primarily from local architecture firms and schools. Over the course of eight workshops, more than 800 person hours went into the construction and installation of 140 unique paper lights. Building on the strength found in numbers, the group’s collective effort yielded a result that was greater than the sum of its parts.
