Overview

Site-specific, custom controlled LED Fused Glass installation for Eagle City Community Center in Idaho. Measuring 4 feet by 6 feet by 8 inches, a custom maple cabinet houses 2 panes of fused glass that responds to 320 LED’s driven by proprietary hardware and firmware that simulates a sunrise, sunset, and the changing seasons. The artwork was designed to reflect the values of the City of Eagle and the imagery hi lights the natural setting of the city as it is nestled between the Boise foothills and river.

Goals

The goals of the project were to help the City of Eagle enhance it's newly constructed community center to create an inviting space for the public. To emphasize that Eagle is a great place to live and work, it's physical location, namesake and title of the artwork were key to the development of the overall design.

Process

Working closely with Cory Reche was instrumental in developing a custom control board and firmware for the LED's as well as the custom cabinet to house the glass. Close collaboration with the City of Eagle was also necessary to coordinate design ideas with the Eagle Arts Commission, work with the City Council for project approval and contracts, meet deadlines, and coordinate installation.

Additional Information

To meet fiscal year-end deadlines and funding availability, 8 weeks were available. We completed the project early.
