Overview
Handmade glass and light create optical magic with caustic networks and thin film interference.
Installed at the University of Maine, Orono’s new Ferland Engineering Center.
24′ wide, 6′ tall, and 4′ deep
Goals
The goals were to inspire science and engineering students to appreciate art, and while inspiring art students to appreciate science and engineering.
Process
We worked with the architect and engineers to integrate the art into the new building. We worked with the university's facilities management to install without disrupting academic functioning of the facility.
Additional Information
The art is illuminated by LED lights, with a celebration of afternoon sunlight.
