Overview

This company had new office space and needed fresh, new artwork to complement their new interior. Walls were large and artwork sizes varied depending on the space. Most of the art centered on patterns and algorithms, others were soft abstracts meant to bring a sense of the outdoors, and some local photography. The goal was to blend their traditional tastes with their more modern, sleek new offices. Aside from Cat Tesla, art was also featured from Scott Eakin, Jess Jones (textile artist), Dirk Walker and Al Heberer (ceramics).

Goals

It was important to have artists commissioned to create site-specific works in order to complement the new space. The corporate color of royal blue was in the design in a subtle fashion, while the artwork would include touches of this color to bring it full circle.

Process

Paula Parker, art consultant for Art & Associates, Inc., met with me extensively to discuss the vision, look, and feel desired for the project. Her idea was to have each area of art represent a season. My artwork would represent Spring. Ms. Parker provided textile and wall samples, in addition to carpet samples so that I could match the colors exactly in the paintings. The "Chrysalis Series" was a great fit since the series is an abstraction of nature. Rather than a single large painting, Ms. Parker wanted me to create seven panels that connected loosely. The paintings were 60"hx15"w/ea and painted using acrylic, ink, oil pastel, and oil glazes on birch.
