Goals
“Connect the Past, Define the Present, and Envision the Future” was the theme for Public Art in the new Solano County Government Center project in Fairfield in 2004.
Located in the downtown area, between Texas, Broadway, Union, and Jefferson streets, within the existing government campus, the new center provide 345,000 square feet of office space and consolidate County functions into a centralized location, accommodating 500-700 employees. The complex consisted of a 6-story Administration building, 5-level parking structure, and a 2-story Probation Dept. building.
The site for the suspended sculpture project was a three-story atrium of main entrance lobby. Solano County Public Art Program seeked artist to work collaboratively with architects, the project design builder, staff, community, and other project team members to create artwork for the new center. Artist was expected to design, fabricate, and install artwork that was site-specific, had “sense of place”, consider the theme of the art program, the design of the architecture of the project.
