Overview
Oasis Sombrio creates an oasis of shade at the entrance a multigenerational community center and park. The piece is comprised of nine beautifully carved granite sculptural seating elements that sit on a ground-plane of decomposed granite. Native Palo Verde trees are strategically placed throughout, which will create a veritable shaded oasis.
Goals
The goals of this installation were to create a public plaza at the entrance of a new community center. Seating and shade were an important part of the piece to create an inviting space for relaxation or gathering. The Palo Verde trees will bring in much needed space as El Paso, TX is located within the Chihuahuan Desert, and nicknamed the Sun City for its sunny days.
