Overview
This project is part of the larger Tokyo municipal geriatric care complex. Twelve home residents will reside in each unit, which is equipped with a common cafeteria, bathroom and living space.
Goals
The bedrooms were designed in a modular fashion, to maximize sunlight exposure while respecting the privacy of each resident. Individuality of the spaces will be further enhanced through proportional variations in window sizes and window treatments. An enclosure made of punched metallic screens allow residents to enjoy the outdoor, while they can avoid the direct exposure to sunlight and maintain privacy from the exterior.
Process
Arata Isozaki, who was responsible for designing the adjacent hospital, assisted in co-planning the home's landscaping.
