The renovated Nebraska Hall on the UNL campus will provide integrated space for technology and data services for logistical and strategic purposes. While the building location is on the UNL campus, it combines interdisciplinary tech-focused offices that provide services across the state for the Nebraska University and College systems. Previously housed in multiple buildings, these offices will now work in one light-filled, open-concept design building that encourages interactivity and collaboration between the offices. The teams will have access to more efficient cross-training and strategic communication. This building will create a cohesive space for the Information Technology Services community and invigorate the teams to become a better data-informed institution.
A few key services provided within the building include:
• Supports technical needs of teaching, research, outreach, and administration staff; reaches over 400,000 students, faculty and staff throughout Nebraska.
• Central training location for System Application services for all campuses.
• Support end point connections for a broad range of critical backbone services designed to meet the computing, communications, security and networking needs statewide
• Support to the Enterprise Data Warehouse, allowing common reporting to University of Nebraska System, the State Colleges and reporting support for the President and Provost offices.
The Committee is seeking artists who can design, in an engaging manner, innovative, thought-provoking projects that relate to the proposed space. The intention of the renovated building and open concept plan is to bring together several offices that offer technological and data services to state agencies across Nebraska. The committee would like to focus on the beauty and big picture of the entire state, and it will also consider work that is relevant to the technology-oriented use of the building. The committee invites artists who envision creating a cohesive artwork that unites different parts of the building, for example: murals throughout the hallways, glass etchings on the glass walls enclosing the many conference rooms/collaboration stations, collection of framed works to be places throughout the building. The proposed two- dimensional artwork may be in concept stage or already completed. If the artwork is existing, include price information. Artwork should be durable and low maintenance.
The committee is not interested in any design, color or themes solely based on the University of Nebraska Lincoln, as this office will be serving the entire state and not just the UNL campus.
The Nebraska Hall Selection Committee, in consultation with the Nebraska Arts Council, has full oversight for the selection of an artist for this project.
Professional public artists or artist teams in Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa and South Dkoata are eligible. The committee reviews RFQ submissions on SlideRoom. Two - four finalists will present proposals in Lincoln, NE, and will receive a proposal honorarium and a travel stipend (if applicable). At the time of finalist presentations, proposals include concept, design, and budget.
A maximum of $40,000.00 is available for the selected artist or artists’ team (All travel and lodging, equipment rental, supplies and fabrication for the final design and commission will be responsibility of the artist/artists team).
