Overview

Sculptural canopy for the City of Westerville, Towers Park, Westerville, Ohio. The canopy, composed of five bending dandelions, measures approximately 17' tall and 24' in diameter. Powder coated aluminum, resin, stainless steel, and silver.

Goals

This connector park is situated between two tall electrical towers. The structure of the towers and space use informed the design as well as the community input which indicated a strong desire for more colorful art. This piece, inspired by elusive moments of childhood, was site specific and also provides respite from the sun.

Process

I designed and fabricated this piece with oversight from an architect, structural engineer and welding engineer.

Additional Information

This piece was designed with dichroic resin elements that have a dynamic appearance, changing as the light or viewer's position changes. I used this effect to underscore the impermanence of the moment. The color inside the structure is rich and evokes stained glass yet, is durable in the elements.
