Overview

Mutual Homes is a commissioned work of exterior sculpture. It was commissioned by the city of Kettering, Ohio and is installed permanently at Oak Park. The sculpture included a community engagement component and is based on the history of the Oak Park neighborhood.

Goals

Creating a piece that reflected the community of Oak Park was integral to the final design. Too, creating a durable work of public sculpture that would last for decades with minimal maintenance was incredibly important.

Process

In cooperation with the director of the public arts program in Kettering, I hosted several events in the neighborhood to learn about the history of the area and to learn about the residents living in the neighborhood. Images and text from the events were incorporated into the work.
