Relief mosaic both interior and exterior surrounds the top of The Tampa Aquarium display at Tampa International Airport. All 120 sq ft of the mosaic is made with hand made ceramic tile, some with a silver luster bordered by our relief marine life bars.
The Tampa Aquarium display was the focal point. The goal was to call attention to the live fish, coral and creatures in the aquarium. We wanted action, color and movement to draw visitors attention in the otherwise sterile environment of baggage claim and curbside drop off. The aquarium had to be accessible as well for maintenance.
We presented sketches, budget and scheduling as well as a maquette to be granted the commission. The process involved Tampa Transit Authority, airport board members, designer and construction companies. The process went amazingly smooth.
I frequently fly in and out of Tampa International. It still makes me smile to watch people looking at our work and the aquarium.
