Overview
‘Movement of Life’ is an enamel on aluminum painted wall installation 6 feet high x 28 feet long located in the Pediatric Emergency Waiting Area of the Kings County Medical Center in Brooklyn NY. The design is intended to lessen the predictable tension of this area and provide visual enjoyment and emotional relief to both children and parents as they anxiously wait to be seen.
Goals
The artwork concept was an imaginary “escape” through flying, jumping, leaping, floating, and swimming, etc. Brightly colored 3-D effects were successful in encouraging children to “hitch an imaginary ride” and project themselves into the artwork.
Process
The artwork had to be harmoniously integrated within the long, narrow corridor wall of the waiting area. It also had to be easily recognizable from all distances and vantage points inside, and clearly visible from the building’s exterior.
