Overview
Mobius was commissioned by NRP Group for their premier, metropolitan lifestyle apartment complex in Cleveland, Ohio, The Vue. The sculpture is prominently placed in the heart of neighborhood, and although the sculpture was commissioned to set apart The Vue, the art work is in a public space available to all visitors. This 31 foot tall kinetic, stainless steel sculpture changes it composition dramatically as it slowly rotates.
Goals
NRP group wanted an iconic image with a contemporary feel to represent The Vue, and draw residents. The art work successfully set The Vue apart through the beauty of its design and the intrigue its changing composition creates.
Process
The CEO of NRP Group was familiar with my art work and contacted me about the project. I flew to Cleveland to meet with the design and construction team. We discussed the expectations of the project and I returned home to create a model. Once the model was approved, I began fabrication. After completion and the end of the brutal winter in Ohio, we installed the piece. The process was very seamless.
Additional Information
A mobius is an object that has a continuous surface allowing one to traverse the front and back planes without crossing an edge. I like to imagine that we can experience both sides of any issue. I used the boomerang image because I love the metaphor that what we throw out in the world comes right back to us.
