Goals
The goal was to paint a mural that was an illusion for the opening of the gallery of living illusions. Since Mimi Choi does makeup art turning her face into a living illusion, I integrated a trippy portrait of my interpretation of her face. I just executed it well enough where it was an illusion itself.
Process
70+ Hours in 6 Days. When I was invited to paint a mural for the Gallery of Living Illusions, the first thought that came to mind was to paint a literal living Illusion—a long time inspiration of mine and the goat of makeup art, Mimi Choi (PKA Mimles) who is unparalleled in a unique version of surrealism.
Needless to say, I reached out for permission to recreate her art in my style, and was ecstatic when she responded, not only giving me her blessing, but also being very kind and supportive during my process. I want to give a shoutout to Alxdlrg and Southerntigercollective for the opportunity to open the Gallery of Living Illusions, and of course, Mimlesi for turning herself into living art to inspire others.
Additional Information
This piece is both UV reactive as well as RGB reactive. That means it looks different under blacklight, and when accommodated with RGB parcans (lights that cycle through colors) the way I layer colors make it look like the piece is 'breathing.'
