Overview
Having the opportunity to work on Michelangelo’s Moses was a significant project for us. For the purpose of creating an exact cast replica for a private sale, an avid art collector from Texas commissioned us to scan Moses at the Dallas Biblical Museum. The bronze casting at the Dallas museum represents the only cast of Michelangelo Buonarroti’s original marble sculpture housed in the church of San Pietro in Vincoli, Rome.
The original was cast in Florence, Italy by the Ferdinando Marinelli Artistic Foundry, the same foundry that has been used by ancient Italian families and the Vatican throughout history. From our 3D scan data, VERO Blue resin was utilized to create a full-scale 3D print which was used as a master for molding and bronze casting at Artworks Foundry. The replica of the sculpture was then sold for $26,000,000 USD, an impressive price tag for such a monumental piece of art.
Goals
Our goals going into this project was to provide accuracy and detail for the sculptures reproduction.
