Overview

We were challenged by Moonlighter/FabLab, a local makerspace in the Miami area, to create a space where artist and makers could display their work during the annual Miami Mini Maker Faire. As with all our designs it always starts with a compelling idea: in this case the origins of art can be traced back to caves. We created a system of walls which together creates a 15 ft x 30 ft x 12 ft space.

Goals

The Miami Mini Maker Faire allows visitors to explore a creative point of view. Our goal was to allow the viewer to investigate creativity. We have worked with pvc before (in furniture) however were challenged to create a structure out of pvc. In using the makerspace to build, we immediately interacted with the makers being showcased and at times created a wall for them which helped share their ideas.

Process

Working at Moonlighter allowed us the ability to prototype; in doing so, we discovered ways of organizing PVC pipes to create a system which led us to produce a cave like pavilion. Artists and makers were part of this makerspace which allowed us to interact and learn from them to help display their interactive pieces.

Additional Information

The Miami Mini Maker Faire is an annual event celebrating the maker movement, the fairs are celebrated throughout the country and worldwide. This years Maker Faire took place at The YoungArts building, previously The Bacardi Headquarters.
