Overview
The Fulcrum Point New Music Project invited Thirst to create a visual accompaniment for Yan Maresz' METALLICS [1995] — for trumpet and surround-sound electronics. Trumpeter/Conductor Stephen Burns performed the world premiere of the video art and the musical performance at the Claudia Cassidy Theater of the Chicago Cultural Center.
Goals
At the essence of this piece is the relationship between the audio trumpet performance and the visualization of the Metallic theme. The work is alive as the digital code is animated by not only the pitch and piercing sounds from the trumpet but also the nuanced breathing from the trumpeter.
Process
Stephen Burns and John Pobojewski, motion capture designer/artist, devised custom code to render every aspect of the audio perforce and make them responsive in real time.
