Overview
CHI Memorial is a not-for-profit, faith-based healthcare organization dedicated to the healing ministry of the Church. Four separate paintings, measuring approx 10' H x 18' wide comprised of a total of 104 tiles were designed/produced to accentuate the recessed area of the grand staircase. Paintings were created on aquaboard and completely sealed with seven coats of UV varnish.
Goals
Guided by their Mission and Core Values of Reverence, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence, the artwork borrowed on the color palette used in their graphic standards to maintain continuity of their brand. The goals were to combine a message of hope and healing while reflecting the colors of the hospital's shared values.
Process
The artist/designer, art consultant and architect were in regular contact throughout the project to maintain overall design, art and installation standards. Prior to initiating the actual artwork, design concepts were developed along with 1/4" scale maquettes.
Additional Information
It was critical to be in regular contact and be responsive to the end client's needs. During the middle of the project, the architect requested I research and employ a flame retardant process to the artwork per the local fire marshal ordinance. The framing supports and backs of all the tiles were sealed with flame retardant paint and solvents prior to shipping/installation.
