Music Series – Melody was commissioned to be a part of the renouned Benson Park Sculpture Garden in Loveland, Colorado. She is a life-sized cast bronze sculpture placed next to the main gazabo, where people gather for cultural events or just enjoy being outdoors in this public park.

The goal of this project was to add my unique vision to this internationally respected sculpture garden. Melody had to hold its own yet also complement the other artist’s work. As Polly Juneau, Chairman on the Board of Directors of the Loveland High Plains Arts Council stated, "Benson Sculpture Garden is a public treasure annually drawing tens of thousands of visitors from around the globe. It has been recognized as one of the 200 most important modern and contemporary art sites around the world and as one of the 20 must-see contemporary art sites across the USA. Kathleen's sculpture, Melody, was selected for permanent placement in Benson Sculpture Garden in 1992. It is a beautiful piece and after more than 20 years continues to be a favorite piece in our collection.”

This was a pretty simple process. The Loveland High Plains Art Coucil saw my work in exhibition and approached me about purchasing it. I agreed and proceeded to enlarge the model to life-size and then worked with Lands End Sculpture Center to cast it. When it was ready, I then met with the Art Council to choose the location in the park. We all worked together to install at the site.

Additional Information

I am honored to be a part of this collection. My current work retains the feel of this early work but I tend to use two or more pieces together along with fabricated elements.
