Overview

Designed and sculpted three life size bronze figures depicting market vendors and everyday people of the 1930’s and several bronze photo realistic reliefs depicting Jazz Musicians, Market Vendors with cast plaques telling the story of each relief.

Goals

The goals of the University and architect was to celebrate the African American Community of Maxwell Street with the people who made up that corridor including musicians, vendors and everyday people enjoying the sights and sounds of where they all gathered with each other.

Process

Artist Becky Ault and her artist assistants sculpted the three figures, the bench and all of the photo realistic bas reliefs that were place on the wooden crates. Once the sculpting was completed ART Research along with Becky Ault developed, cast and installed the three figures, the bench and the Photo Realistic Street Scenes.
