Mishawaka Amphitheatre
Overview
Luna Mothra is a permanent installation for the Mishawaka Amphitheater in Bellvue, Colorado. The nature, design & name of the artwork are all composites of various mythologies & histories, holding both cross-cultural & pop-cultural significance. Sculpture will be an amalgamation of biology, entomology & mythology, especially in regard to the “nymph” as a character.
Goals
I learned to draw superhero comics when I was younger so I really wanted Luna to look like a superhero. Gymnasts and olympians inspired Luna’s physiology under my presumption that fairies would had to have had tremendous athletic ability to fly and bound through the trees.
Process
The Mishawaka Amphitheatre commissioned me to create and build Luna Mothra as a symbol of the Poudre river, and protector of the venue.
