Overview
Lucent is 30 x 3 x 3 feet and changes color through programmable fiber optic lighting. This commission was for the new light rail station at 19th Ave and Camelback in Phoenix. To make this project, I welded approximately 20,000 aluminum bars over a substructure. This piece had fiber optic cables threaded through each section of the piece.
Goals
This piece was meant to be a welcoming beacon.
Process
This project was an extensive collaboration with an engineer, lighting designer, station architect, and installer over five years.
