Overview
This downtown Seattle apartment building is another example of private development/public art. Low Tide is an illustration of a water reflection in the Puget Sound. Photographed, drawn then screen printed onto 12” x 12” tile, Low Tide spans 21 horizontal feet on the vertical wall at the base of the building.
Goals
Low Tide was created to help integrate the newly constructed building into the feeling of the urban Belltown neighborhood which sits just above the Seattle waterfront and to give the Volta Building a unique identity and local neighborhood appeal.
Process
After being awarded the commission, I worked closely and collaboratively with the building owners, helping them learn more about the surrounding environment. We used that process to develop a number of options moving toward the final design, which reflected how the owners wanted to present the look and style of the Volta Building.
