August 2022, Steel & Tennessee Field Stone, 66” x 42’.
Role-Design, Fabrication & Installation-Permanent
The multi-layered sculpture incorporates oxidized steel elements which abstractly represent the flow of water through the Augusta Canal and Savannah Rapids. The thicker, flowing elements are decorative. The thinner elements serve as the areas where the public attach their locks.
The brick monument plays off the structure and material of the Headgates themselves and is constructed of the same stone. The oxidized steel panel atop the stone block monument identifies the piece and its purpose along with an icon, symbolizing the “Love Locks”.
