Overview
An herbarium of local medicinal plants printed on side-lit (LED) plexiglas panels was installed in the windows of the three-story glass stairwell of the health clinic.
Goals
The famous Swedish botanist and explorer Pehr Kalm visited the Baie-Saint-Paul region in Québec in the 18th century and made an inventory of local medicinal plants. I wanted to make the public aware this historical event by presenting in this work some examples the plants mentioned in his travel journal. The work is visible from the street as well as from inside the clinic.
Process
The artist designed the artwork and electrical system, photographed and scanned local plants and had them printed on plexiglas by the plexiglas supplier. Aluminum structure built by FOL: Art Public workshop in Quebec City . Installation by artist and FOL Art Public
