Overview

The AT&T Center just underwent major upgrades and updating their art collection was part of the project. I was commissioned to create a piece that reflected the aspects of Spurs, Sports & Entertainment. The area I had to work in was approx. 60’w x 40’h with an escalator underneath it. The second wall was completed April 2016 and is 15′ x 18′ and is adjacent to the first wall. It is a fun interpretation of the new state of the art Jumbo Tron that is above the arena and all the fans love it! this wall is the ‘Jumbro Tron’

Goals

The AT&T Center had an impressive art collection installed when it was built 15 years ago and it was important to update the collection and re install the art after construction. There are local and international artists showcased throughout. I was one of 6 or 7 new art installations that were added to the collection. The original vision statement that was created for the art collection key words are: sense of place, civic pride, multiculturalism, exuberance, family and history. The budget for the entire project was $110 million and made upgrades to every corner; new paint, lighting and state-of-the-art technology.

Process

As the designer and artist, I worked directly with the art curator of the Spurs, Sports & Entertainment collection and her assistant who was the liaison with the construction and architecture firm in charge of the renovations. I hired and was the liaison for the vendor who did the actual installation of the wall covering. Final approval of design came from Spurs, Sports & Entertainment.
