Overview

Let light and color shine through! A couple approached me to create a custom glass piece for a dark wall in their home. When I saw the windowless wall, I suggested making a “window of colorful light!”

Goals

I feel it is important to collaborate with my clients to make sure that we all are on the same page during the planning and creation process.
Communication is essential so there will not be any surprises.
It is through this process that a positive relationship is developed and nourished. In this project I guided my clients through the process of creating a few glass pieces that were integrated in the wall piece. It was through this process that they were able to appreciate the steps and become invested in their piece. It was installed with LED lights and a remote control. They love to share the story and to show off the piece to their friends.

Process

I started the wall piece by welding a frame from pieces of steel. My next step was creating the glass. I used frit (crushed colored glass) on sandblasted clear pieces of glass. After using multiple colors of frit for the design, another clear piece of glass went over it. The pieces were fused together in the kiln at 1550 F. After the glass was completed it was affixed to the frame.
