Overview
The design is based on colors and simple shapes associated with summer – sailboats, beach balls and life preservers. The 17 individual pieces were designed to fill a 2 1/2′ x 10′ wall in the family waiting area.
Goals
The commission was designed for an addition to an existing hospital. The floor was given an overall theme of "At the Lake". All works chosen had to adhere to the theme and incorporate a specific palette into the design.
Process
My communication was strictly with the art consultant tasked with commissioning the artists. She approached me after seeing previous my work and had definite ideas for the project. We brainstormed on designs, materials, colors and patterns to reach a final design solution before work began. To avoid misunderstandings, all aspects of the project were approved by the hospital art committee.
Additional Information
The sails, balls, and life preservers are kiln formed glass attached to CNC plasma cut anodized aluminum and attached with back mounted hardware.
