Overview

These pieces are created entirely from individual strips of Styrofoam which are each wrapped in a traditional Korean paper called hanji, and hand painted. The thousands upon thousands of pieces each recreate a brushstroke from the original source imagery by Van Gogh and translate the tradition of painting into a new medium.

Goals

These pieces were specifically commissioned by the collection based upon source imagery that they wanted for a new office building that was being designed. The scale of the pieces was a two fold discussion based upon the limitations of budget, shipping logistics, and the size that the artist could fabricate.
