Overview

KONICZYNA public sculpture is an ultralight construction made up of three FiDU steel arches. Put together they create the effect of naturally growing bionic sculpture. KONICZYNA’s polished surface constantly reflects the surroundings and gives an amazing game of lights, therefore its appearance changes throughout the day.

Operating on the intersections of art, design and science, Oskar Zięta reaches beyond the traditional definition of an artist. During his sculpting process, the form is created with the use of digital manipulations. The initial vision of the construction of the sculpture was translated to digital language. In his work, Oskar Zieta draws inspiration from nature and the forms it creates. Developed by evolution throughout thousands of years, nature has created many fantastic forms that are perfect combination of aesthetics and design solutions. Up to now their recreation was very difficult, however with the use of contemporary design tools and original FiDU technology, Oskar Zieta goes beyond the framework of classic artist, becoming an art innovator.

Goals

Echo Investment, while searching for symbol of their development philosophy, got into cooperation with Oskar Zięta. The idea was to create a sculpture that merges the future, nature and technology, a sculpture that would bring added value and uniqueness to their new building investment. Leafed form of clover made in unique FiDU technology, an innovative technology invented by Oskar Zięta, is a great symbol for those who focus more on hard work than on sheer blind luck.

Process

This seemingly simple form consists of elements twisting 90 degrees around their axis. Easy for nature to create is difficult to recreate in one form in FiDU, and impossible in any other. It was necessary to combine the work of automated production robots with human labor. A bionic form with a unique shape was created. The weight of the ultralight construction was possible thanks to FiDU. It allows to distort the shapes of steel elements welded together. “Inflating” it with compressed air, the metal forms become durable and stable, maintaining its lightness at the same time.

Additional Information

The organic shapes are the result of parametric design. This innovative domain operating in architecture, engineering and city planning relies on software which allows to generate blocks on the basis of combined input of parameters. Forms are generated during the process of computer shaping, which can surprise the creator of the sculpture himself. Thanks to the initial parameters, the final shapes fulfill practical goals, such as optimal size, weight, adaptation to the environment.
