Overview
This bronze sculpture is designed after the late female poet who made an influence on the community of Nacogdoches and also on the literary world. It is 125% life-size as she sits on a chair contemplating her next written words. The added bird and stack of books next to her reflect elements of her career and important literary works she completed.
Goals
This sculpture is one of several historical sculptures from the Friends of Historic Nacogdoches for the city of Nacogdoches, TX. I was chosen from a number of sculptors to create this work of art depicting Karle Wilson Baker.
Process
The sculpture needed to be life-like and resemble the actual person, Karle Wilson Baker. Since the family of Karle was still alive I was able to collaborate with them on the design and her likeness. I was also able to work with historians and literary experts about her life and the impact she made. This helped influence my design.
