Client: Private Residence

Overview

Built in the early ’80’s this oceanfront condo and the owners presented needs and design challenges that required innovative solutions. Kapalua has strict design codes that didn’t allow us to expand the original foot print of the unit. But it worked beautifully and the clients love the space.

Goals

The clients have multiple homes and collect artwork, art glass, and Hawaiiana artifacts that needed to have display space and good lighting. It was very important to keep these details in mind in the design process as it affected so many areas in the project.

Process

The designer and the builder worked together as the remodel was going on. When walls come down you don't know what will be there. The kitchen design was reworked to accommodate pipes that couldn't be moved and soffit was added to keep the A/C vents.
