Overview

Materials include: Dichroic laminated Acrylic, stainless steel frame and programmable RGB LED’s. Dimensions: L 28′ x W 10′ x H 4′. The sculptures steel frame and Dichrolaminated acrylic components were produced on computer-programmed laser cutting machines. To enable the owner to control the RGB LEDs the displays are pre-programmed using Lumenplay.

Goals

Our Goal was to create a signature landmark Public Art Sculpture for The Castle and the Short North Arts District. A dynamic light sculpture that instills in viewers a sense of joy, and identity, belonging and attachment.

Process

The collaborative process evolved somewhat circuitously. In response to the Short North Alliance’s (SNA) call for proposals we studied the area, its future development plans and met with the first architectural team review the construction docs. Our proposal did not win the competition.

However, when the winning project could not be built, we presented Jubilation to the building’s owner developer and received the commission. The We worked closely with the Area Commission, building’s owner, engineers to integrate the work into the structure. The SNA became the projects owner and coordinator for funding and permitting.

Additional Information

As clients and visitors pass by and sit beneath Jubilation, they enjoy an infinite interplay of color and light reflections and transmissions on the sidewalk, building and each other.
