Overview
Intricate Pattern Overlay was commissioned by the Wolfsonian Museum, an interpretation of a dazzle camouflage pattern on the exterior of their landmarked building in Miami Beach on the occasion of an exhibition commemorating the 100 year anniversary of World War I – “World War I and Visual Culture.” The title refers to my own proprietary dazzle camouflage.
Goals
The building's exterior was integrated into the museum exhibition content inside. Many pedestrians walk by the building without realizing the extensive collection, exhaustive scholarship, exhibitions and events open to the public within. The museum occasionally invites contemporary artists to contribute new work to enhance the experience of museum goers, the public, and in this case, the architecture of the building itself.
Process
I worked closely with the museum's exhibition designer to develop the plan for the mural, which I installed with a small crew in approx 10 days.
Additional Information
Intricate Pattern Overlay was the first mural permitted by the City of Miami Beach, and on an unlikely Landmarked structure which is part of the Art Deco Preservation District. I was very honored to create this work, which was extremely popular.
